Arts & Crafts: Health & Safety

Achoooo!
added 6-25-98
Original author unknown

Need: paper plate, wiggle eyes, crayons, construction paper, a tissue, scissors, and stapler.

Directions: Using paper plates that they had decorated (they chose the color eyes they have and then I gave them wiggle eyes to put on top of the colored ones).
They drew a nose and a mouth - very simple. Then we traced their hand and cut it out, and placed a tissue over the mouth they drew with the cut out hand on top and stapled it in place. Then I pulled back the hand and tissue, sneezed, and showed them how they were covering their mouths with the tissue when they sneezed.

Healthy Foods Place Mats added 3-25-01 Original author unknown

Need: Vegetables, paint, paper

Directions: Cut different fruits and vegetables in half (do this early so they dry a bit) let the kids dip them in different colors of paint and stamp them on a piece of construction paper.  When they are dry cover them with contact paper or laminate
for a cute good foods place mat!

Favorite Food Collage added 3-25-01 Original author unknown

Need: Magazines, glue, paper or paper plate

Directions: Make a favorite food collage. Give the children a bunch of magazines to cut out from and glue to glue them on a piece of construction paper or a paper plate.

Safety Vests added 5-20-01 Submitted by: Kathy

Need: Paper Grocery bag, bright paint, reflective tape

Directions: Use a paper Grocery bag and cut it into a vest. Let children decorate with bright colorful paints then  use reflective tape (which can be purchased at a hardware store) and let children put it on their vest.  Explain that when light hits the tape it shines brightly.  You can also remind them that it is just like the reflective tape on a firefighters jacket.
Children can wear their vests during a safety walk or when they ride their trikes and bikes.
