Arts & Crafts: Food > Vegetables

Corn Cob Flowers added 1-23-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: Corn bobs, Knife (adult only), paper, crayons, glue

Directions: Cut the corn cobs into very thin slices. Let them dry and use as flowers! Glue the thin slice of the corn cob onto paper. The children can draw stems and leaves. Or cut then out of paper and glue on.


Vegetable Prints added 1-23-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: vegetables, paint, paper

Directions: Make vegetable prints with paint and vegetables (potatoes, corn, whatever).


Vegetable Fingerpaints added 1-23-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: Finger paint, paper, scissors

Directions: Finger paint on paper.  When dry, cut out shapes of vegetables.


Vegetable Book added 1-23-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: Construction paper, old Magazines or vegetable clipart, scissors, glue

Directions: Use construction paper folded in half for a book.  Have the children glue pictures of vegetables in it.


Creative Painting added 1-23-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: Vegetable tops, paint, paper

Directions: Use carrot tops and celery leaves to paint with.


Carrot Printing added 2-22-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: Carrots, paint, paper

Directions: For free art allow the children to make prints with the shapes you have precut.  Cut carrots into squares, circles, triangles and rectangles.
Put out shallow dishes of tempera paint and white construction paper.

Sponge Prints added 2-22-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: Vegetable tops, paint, paper

Directions: Cut a cucumber shape out of light green construction paper and sponge paint with dark green paint.


Carrot Art added 2-22-01 Original Author Unknown

Need: finger paint paper, paint, scissors

Directions: Cut large carrot shapes with tops from finger paint paper. Put about a teaspoon each of red and yellow paint on the carrot and let them start mixing. Soon, the carrot is covered in orange.  Next, do the same with the leafy part using blue and yellow paints.  Soon that turns green.
