Another of my son’s favorite,
this Tonka book is all about, you guessed it, the mighty backhoe! A
little boy named Billy has just moved into the neighborhood and was only
able to take one toy with him in the moving truck. Billy chose his
backhoe. Billy knows everything there is to know about backhoes, like
how they can dig like an excavator and doze like a bulldozer. Backhoes
can load like a loader and so much more! Maybe that’s why it is
Billy’s favorite machine. When his mother shows Billy an area in his
new backyard where he may dig with his backhoe, he gets right to work.
He can hear other boys playing with their toys over the fence and asks
if he may join them. They tell Billy that they do not need a backhoe so
Billy plays by himself imagining all the things he can do ! When the
other boys hear Billy absorbed in his game they are eager to have him
join in their game, but Billy already knew that. Everybody needs a
backhoe!
This Tonka book goes into great details about
what a backhoe can do and what it is used for. Besides enjoying the
story line, every little boy would be interested in the magic behind
this mighty machine. My son became eager to learn exactly how this truck
worked and also how it could change its attachments, like taking off the
big scoop to add a hydraulic hammer, so the men at the construction site
could break up the rocks in their way. Very informative with lots of colorful
pictures, this one would be perfect for the 2-8 year old construction
man in your life!
