Garden

Traditionally, when we think of a garden, we think of large places for
planting. But Eve shares with us the gift of beauty found in small
places. The book takes us on a journey with a young girl and her father.
We find them at the grocery store purchasing flowers. We follow them
through the checkout line, down the street, on the bus, up the apartment
stairs to their own front door. We watch as they plant the flowers
together in a window box. We learn the names of each flower and see
the delight on the girl's face as the box is placed in the window.
Anticipation mounts as candles are lit on a birthday cake and a surprised
mother comes through the door. She discovers her gift of a garden and
gives the little girl a hug. Books showing life in an apartment are
hard to come by. This one is made even more beautiful by the wonderful
illustrations by Kathryn Hewitt.
