Did you know a rabbit's home is called a warren, or an eagle's home an aerie? I didn't, until I read Castles, Caves, and Honeycombs by Linda Ashman. The verse that tells the story speaks softly to listens yet the pictures are big and vibrant. Working together, pictures and verse enter the homes of many different creatures and reader and listener are
mesmerized by the soothing tone and outstanding artwork. In the end, whether your home is "A chamber in a snowy mound," or "A busy town beneath the ground," Ms. Ashman ties them all together in a wonderful way. "A home is someplace safe and snug," and that's the way it should be. Read Castles, Caves, and Honeycombs with your toddler. It'll make you both feel good.
