Huggly Gets Dressed
By Tedd Arnold

Review by: Yvonne Gaudet

You know that monster that we all think, at one point or another in our childhood, lives under our bed? Well, he is real, and his name is Huggly! Huggly likes when rooms are messy, but when he comes out from under the bed in this story, he needs to be really quiet so as not to wake the people child that is asleep on the bed He makes his way to the dresser and bumps and stumbles on his way. When he bumps into the dresser, he knocks all the clothes out all over the floor! As he examines the people clothes, he wonders why people wear clothes. He decides to try the clothes on for himself, to see what the whole idea of them is. Your children will laugh as they see Huggly put a tee-shirt on for pants, and pants on for a shirt! Huggly even puts socks on his hands, mittens on his feet, and a pair of underwear over his head! Suddenly there is a knock on the door! "Time to get up," the people mother says, "Do you need help getting dressed?" Huggly freezes in his spot, "oh no!" he says as the mother opens the door. He turns to run to his safe spot under the bed and bangs right into the people child who is getting out of bed. As the door swings open, he dives under the people bed and the clothes he had on flies up into the air. The underwear land on the boys head, "How did you get dressed like that?" the mother laughs. "A...a...monster under the bed . . . ," replies the boy. "That goofy monster again," his mother says, "Tell me about it."
This story is a funny little book, good for a few laughs! After all, some books are meant to be enjoyed and when they are this silly, children will read them over and over again. I recommend this book for ages 0-8. It is very simple for beginning readers as well. Enjoy it, we did!
