From the comical front cover to the very last page, Meow Monday is sure
to bring a smile to your face and giggles to the young children.
Children take things literally. A pussy willow would bring cats or
kittens to mind. Phyllis Root starts this humorous adventure with Bonnie
Bumble seeing her pussy willows in full bloom. The cats are making a
great deal of noise! The hen stops laying eggs, the cow stops giving milk
and the sheep and the pig cover their ears because of the noise level.
What is Bonnie Bumble to do? She tries to feed them everything that she knows cats like such as,
catnip and cat food. Bonnie tries petting and brushing them. She even tries giving them
milkweed, which quiets things down quickly. Of course, once their tummies are full its time for a
catnap. Things go back to normal with hen laying eggs and cow giving
milk. But that only lasts so long, and the next plant blooms. Woe is
Bonnie Bumble when she has to figure out how to stop dogwood from
barking!
Helen Craig's delightful illustrations with faces full of expression are
sure to be enjoyed by both listeners and the readers.
Hope all your Mondays are not full of Pussy Willows!
