Every Autumn Comes the Bear
By Jim Arnosky
Review by: Ellen
Author and artist Jim Arnosky brings his bear and other forest animals to life in Every Autumn Comes the Bear. Against the stark back-drop of late fall, the animals seem to leap off the pages into your lap. You can almost hear them softly crunching in the new fallen snow, and see their breath in the frosty air.
Every Autumn Comes the Bear has minimal yet effective text-simple yet descriptive words that would appeal to children ages 3-6. Each page leaves them waiting to see what animal will appear next, while the star of the book-the bear, has total control over his forest environment. You can sense his strength, and the reverence he evokes from all the other animals around him.
Children will delight in watching the weather change ever so
slightly from page to page. Every Autumn Comes the Bear is beautifully done and is a strong yet somehow gentle story that awakens the senses. It makes you want to crawl into that cave and snuggle right up next to that bear and hibernate for the winter.
