Clifford’s
First Christmas

When Clifford was still a
little puppy, he had never had a Christmas before. He had never even
seen a real Christmas tree until Christmas Eve! That’s when Emily and
her mom and dad got out the Christmas decorations and began to decorate
the house. Even Clifford was able to help! Emily held the branches down
low enough so that Clifford was able to hang ornaments in the tree. When
they were finished, the tree looked beautiful, that is of course after
they rescued Clifford from the top of the tree! Clifford like playing
with the hanging ornaments until one ball swung back at him and knocked
him over. Then it was time for Emily Elizabeth to wrap some gifts and of
course Clifford was right there to lend a hand. Finally it was time to
go to bed. Emily tucked Clifford into his bed, then she got into hers
and they both fell fast asleep.
Well Clifford really tried hard to sleep but he
couldn’t so he decided to investigate the stockings that were hanging
on the fireplace. This had seemed like a good plan to Clifford until he
fell right into Emily’s stocking and got stuck! It wasn’t to long
before Santa came! As Santa was about to fill Emily’s stocking, he
noticed it moving! By this time Emily had awoken as well, so Santa
tucked them into bed and asked them to go back to sleep so he could
finish delivering his parcels. The following morning Santa had left many
presents for Emily and her family. He even left a huge bone for
Clifford! Clifford was so small that first Christmas, that Emily was
able to let him ride in her electric toy car! It didn’t take long for
Clifford to learn he was not such a good driver! Then Clifford pretended
to be a giant dog in Emily’s toy doll house and a tunnel for her train
set. He even gave Emily’s tiny doll a ride on his back! If only Emily
knew then how big Clifford would become!
I recommend this book for ages 2-6. The younger
children will enjoy the story and the early readers will enjoy
practicing their reading skills.
