Suspense, drama, happy ending, and a lesson. These are four important qualities
of this great book. Come Along, Daisy! is a wonderful way to
remind preschoolers of the important of staying with Mommy and Daddy when
they are away from home.
Daisy's Mother reminds her to stay close.
"I'll try, said Daisy." With so many things to see and do, Daisy
begins to lag behind. Daisy, is just like a curious preschooler. She watches
the fish, chases dragon flies, bounces on lily pads, and before she knows it
she is all alone. Mama duck is no where to be found. Now, the once friendly
pond Daisy played in seems a little frightening. Daisy hides is some reeds,
wishing Mama Duck was there. She hears some rustling. "Daisy could hear
it getting closer, ....and closer, ....and closer, ....and CLOSER."
Preschoolers will be sitting on the edge of her seats with anticipation.
Then they will be delighted to discover the rustling was only mama duck.
Mama Duck tells Daisy to come along. Daisy Still plays with the butterflies,
but this time stays very close to Mama.
Jane Simmons has wrote this story with just enough suspense
without crossing the line of scary. The bright illustrations span across
both pages, making it easy for viewing during a group story time. Broad
strokes of color and adorable depiction of the ducks help make an already
excellent story a must have.
I recommend this
story for preschool children ages 2 –5.
