Ms. Gill opens the doors to a child's imagination through her magical view of the wonder and awe of the backwoods of Alaska detailed in nursery rhyme. From the snow goose to the tufted puffin and the marmot and caribou; Ms. Gill weaves a song of Alaskan nature in harmony with the magnificent creatures that call the land of the midnight sun their home. Through prose we discover a crane's ballet, the dense fur of the musk ox, the footing on granite of the white dall sheep and the arctic playground of the walrus and whale.
The black bear enjoys a favorite treat that happens to turn his teeth a most beautiful shade of blue!
Beware of the devils - club plant and the grouchy wolverine as he sulks in a bed of reindeer moss.
The illustrations are a colorful variety of patterns, Alaskan wilderness terrain and the animals that flourish in their arctic habitat.
This book is chosen over and over for story
time by the children in my care. They especially enjoy singing the Alaskan version of Twinkle Twinkle while gazing at the northern lights.
I highly recommend this book for children and adults with a sense of adventure!
