Simmons' "Daisy and the Beastie" is one in a series that has won
many top awards including: A Parenting Magazine Book of the Year, the New
York Public Library's 100 titles for Reading and Sharing,
Booklist's Editor's Choice.
After hearing one of Grandpa's stories about
the mysterious 'Beastie', Daisy the duckling and her little brother Pip go
on an adventure searching the farm for the 'Beastie". Their travels
carry us through the story like "Old McDonald's Farm", filled with
barnyard sounds. This read-aloud story reassures in the end with the search
being the adventure. Simmons is known for her artistry. The paintings she
creates often become the illustrations for her picture books. As a teacher,
I recommend this book for circle-time, story time, or anytime.
