Pam
Conrad had written a story destined to be a classic. In her
endearing tale, Young Rooster is very proud of his Gift, which he
assumes to be: making the day. After all, the sun has risen and
the day has begun since the very first time Young Rooster found
himself on top of the chicken coop, in the dark, letting out his
glorious "Cot Cot Cot Cot Ca-toodle tooooooo!" But
just as his pride in himself is about to burst Young Rooster at the seams,
something unthinkable happens. Young Rooster doesn't show up on top of
the chicken coop at the usual time and the sun rises anyway. It takes
the steadfast love and true friendship of Smallest Hen to get Young Rooster
over his humiliation, and back up on the roof. If one cared to
analyze such a beautiful story, it could be said that the Rooster's
real gift is his true friend. But just enjoy the heartwarming
story and Eric Beddows' breathtaking art. You'll pick The
Rooster's Gift off the bookshelf many times over.
