Fear of the unknown affects everyone differently. The little boy
featured in "Its Time For School, Stinky Face" is no exception. He does not know what to
expect when he starts school. He showers his mother with an avalanche of questions.
The mother is very quick to and reassures her son with entertaining answers. His worries include: the school bus tires all going flat when he steps inside of it. She tells him that she would remedy the situation by sending some clowns with their crazy little cars. Fearing
that all of the glue spilled and the class room door getting stuck, he
looks to his mom for an answer. What if he would be unable to exit the
room? His mother tells him that she would get a pogo stick so he could
jump on it and get out safely. Throughout this book, his mother's answers lead to his imagination going wild. Learning the hokey pokey, playing a zoomy game of desk tag and being slimed by green alien goop stirs up the boy's excitement for starting school.
Humorous illustrations by Cyd Mooe making starting school less scary for the younger children. Even the older children who have been going to school will be entertained by the questions and creative answers
that the pictures that come to mind. The mother's love is evident throughout this book. She is entertaining her young son yet trying to
calm his fears. Underlying the fact that no matter what happens when he gets to school his mother will always be there and try to help him deal
with it.
Children who are just starting school will be comforted and come to realize just how much fun learning and school can be.
