: Book Reviews > Cat, What Is That?
By Tony Johnston
Drawing on her own experience as an adopted cat owner, Tony
Johnston describes the many attributes a cat shows. Wendell Minor brings to life what the author is trying to convey. Cats yawn, stretch and wink.
With rhyming txt and exquisite paintings, children of all ages will fall in love with this book published by Harper Collins Publishers.
Cats love milk and it is shown as a cat begs a cow for a drink. Cats
dislike water and one cat hides inside a mailbox during a rain shower. He is dubiously named the "Prince of Wails." No matter what the weather or time of day, cat naps are always in order
such as snoring during a snowstorm or a curl-up-in-your-lap nap. A sweet grey kitten is mesmerized by watching a goldfish in a bowl.
An orange tabby is seen sneaking up behind a mouse. By the light of the moon, black and white cat haunts the city dump. A white cat is licking its paw and about to devour an ice cream sundae. Throughout all these facets, none is more beautiful than the 2 cats giving each other a hug just as shown on the cover.
The paintings in this book are splendid. They show many varieties of cats and their many personalities. Spending time in this book will have you purring for more.
