When
Rebecca Estelle was a little girl, her parents had money problems, so all
they had to eat for their meals was pumpkin! Baked pumpkins, Boiled
pumpkins, stewed pumpkins, rotten pumpkins, an entire month of pumpkins!
This is why Rebecca Estelle hated pumpkins, even when she was all grown up
and had a home of her own.
Then one day a pumpkin fell off of the
pumpkin truck and onto her front yard with a splat! Rebecca could not even
look at the pumpkin! She did everything she could do to get rid of it! She
tried to bury the broken pumpkin in the dirt but it soon grew vines. She
refused to water and tend to the vines but still they grew. She got out
her garden tools and tried to cut and dig the plant out but still they
grew! She even stopped using her front door so as not to see the vine that
had been growing in the pumpkins place!
The following fall Rebecca forgot why she
stopped using the front door of her house decided to go ahead and use it.
When she rounded the corner of her house there were pumpkins everywhere!
She didn’t know what to do! Now she had a very hard job, getting rid of
those heavy pumpkins. She didn’t have the strength to push them into
town in the wheelbarrow, in the hopes of giving them away. She would just
have to find another way of getting rid of them.
This is a great book to read in the fall
during harvest time! Not only does it have a funny story line, the
illustrations are adorable and by the end of the book you realize, no
matter how bad things seem, there is usually a good way to solve your
problems if you take the time to think things through! To find out what
became of this poor pumpkin-hating lady you’ll have to read the book!
Your children will really enjoy this one!
