"Some Grannies have, then legs, fat knees, bristly chins,
interesting hair, crinkly eyes, friendly smiles, or a big soft lap. Our
Granny has a wobbly bottom."
This is a funny and lovable story about Grannies. This story is rich with
diversity, and helps the children to understand that not everyone is the
same. People live in many different places, have different jobs, and do
different things. Yet the story shows a more intimate side of one family’s
Granny. There is a wonderful opportunity to ask children open ended
questions about their Grannies. What an extraordinary celebration of
Grandmothers. The first day I brought this book into my classroom, the
children had me read it 4 times. It is silly in parts and serious in others.
A terrific combination.
The illustrations are done in watercolors. The Grannies are comical,
colorful, and multicultural. Three aspects that just work wonderful together
to make an excellent book. This book is a must have for all children. It
will be high on your list of favorites as it is on mine. I recommend this
book for preschool children ages 3 - 6
