Dogs
have different uses in different situations. Some are pets and some are work
dogs.
Just Like Floss is a story about a border collie
mother named Floss who has just had puppies. The farm children beg their
father to let them keep one to work with the sheep on the farm like Floss
does. Making a choice between the five adorable puppies is a very difficult
decision. The
choice is made easier when Sam follows his natural instincts and goes to
find his mother. His siblings are more interested in playing while Sam
becomes acquainted with the sheep. He shows bravery and doesn't back down
from the flock and run away.
The children find the lost little puppy named Sam
and bring him back to the barn by his mother and siblings. The children tell
their father about
what had happened. The choice is made to keep Sam because he is Just Like
Floss. Good homes are found for the remaining puppies.
Kim Lewis draws on her own experience of
living on a working sheep farm in writing this book. Her detailed and
expressive pencil drawings add to the appeal of this book. This is a must
read for dog lovers!
