Written in fun rhyming verse, My Monster Mama Loves Me So features a big hairy (but not too scary) monster mama and her son. Every other page is an illustration filled with all sorts of monstrously wonderful things.
The monster mama dotes on her boy from the minute he wakes up, as she combs the cobwebs from his bangs and makes sure he brushes his fangs, until the time he goes to bed, by making sure his spider's fed. In between, she bakes him cookies filled with bugs, takes him to the swamp to swim and shows him how to disappear, takes him to the park to star gaze after dark, then sings him lullabies to help him sleep.
My favorite part of the book is near the middle-- "On rainy, windy stormy days, she breathes and makes a cozy blaze. We read some books, toss on more logs, sing camping songs and roast hot dogs."--shows mama and son sitting together in front of their fireplace surrounded by all the comforts of home: their sleeping monster dog, hoot owl, bugs and spider webs.
I read this book at our preschool Halloween party last year and the class loved it! I recommend My Monster Mama Loves Me So for ages 4-7.
