The Pumpkin Patch Parable
by Liz Curtis Higgs

The author notes "that this book is NOT a celebration of Halloween". She takes care in offering a Bible verse reference on every page. A simple pumpkin is turned into an example of God's love! it is a story how Christians can be like a pumpkin, chosen by God, to spread His word and to "let yourself GROW!"
The farmer, in this story, takes pumpkin seeds and carefully plants them, nurtures them, waits patiently and watches them grow. The farmer's crop flourishes and he picks one special pumpkin out of his whole crop! The pumpkin is cleaned, the seeds and pulp are taken out and he is made new by giving the pumpkin a face. The farmer places a candle inside the pumpkin to make it glow! The book ends with...."in the same way, God the Father offers his children the chance to be made new, full of joy and full of light, shining like stars in a dark world."
How many of us have seen a child's eyes light up when their pumpkin glows with the light of a candle? Share this story of God's love with your children and watch their love grow before your eyes!
