Games & Outdoors : Fire Safety

Cover, Stop, Drop, Roll added 9-9-01 Original Author Unknown

I have all the kids wear sweatshirts and place orange felt *flames* on them.  Then they demonstrate how to Cover, Stop, Drop, and Roll on the carpet, to put the flames out.  ( Add *cover*, to teach them to cover their face with their hands while rolling.)

Crawl added 9-9-01 Original Author Unknown

We clothespin sheets up around the room, about 2 ft from the floor, and practice crawling, low, under the "smoke".

Red Dot, Blue Dot added 9-9-01 Original Author Unknown

Get tiny red and blue dot stickers from a office supply store. Put the red dots on hot
things, and blue dots on cold things as you do a safety walk with the kids through your building or home.

Stop, Drop, & Roll added 8-30-04 Original Author Unknown

Need: construction paper and tape

Cut paper in strips and roll to make a circle, put tape on outside/opposite side of paper. Tape to children - on backs, arms, chest, legs, etc .(leaving one side of tape facing out) Teach the children "stop-drop-roll". Have the children stop, then drop, then roll until the paper "fire" has come off from them.
