The First Christmas
By Maria Grazia Boldorini

Review by: Yvonne Gaudet

This big board book was the first book my husband and I bought for our daughter to tell her about the Christmas story. She was 2 years old at the time and she is now eight, which shows me that if it is still available it must be worth having! Big bright and beautiful is how I would describe this book. The story starts long ago, as Mary rode upon a donkey, on her way to Bethlehem with her husband. Mary was expecting a baby, a special baby, God’s son. Meanwhile in a nearby field an angel appears to some shepherds and tells them "Tonight the Christ child is born!". They traveled towards the town to find the new born babe. Far, far away, three wise kings notice a big bright star and realize that a great king is born. They immediately follow the star to find the baby as well. When the wise men and the shepherds find the Baby Jesus, he is in a stable, lying in the hay. They have gifts for him and they praise him. "Joy to the world" they say "Peace on Earth."
This is the story of Baby Jesus. Remarkable pictures and use of color make this an awesome book to share with children from the ages of birth to five years old. Early readers will enjoy reading this one by themselves, or for grandma and grandpa on Christmas day.
