We Were There: A Nativity Story
By Eve Bunting
Illustrated by Wendell Minor

Review by: Stephanie Rawlins

A snake, scorpion, toad, and several other unusual creatures are on the way to see the newborn king. The presence of these not so cute members of God's creation have been forgotten in the nativity scene we so often see. In Eve Bunting's We Were There: a nativity story each creature wants all to know that they too followed the north star in their journey across the desert to witness the arrival of a baby boy born in a stable.
The beautiful, dusky, soft edged, illustrations are actually paintings by Wendell Minor. Each picture contributing to the overall feeling of the 'Silent Night' revered by all, even the less loved creatures. We Were There is a unique perspective on the Christmas story. This beautifully crafted book will make a great addition to any collection, child or adult.
