Corduroy's Best Halloween Ever!
Based on the character created by Don Freeman
Illustrated by Lisa McCue

Review by: Monica Barker

Our beloved Corduroy bear is the star of a series of children's books. I didn't know there were so many until I started doing some searching for one of our teachers, who's using Corduroy as her room's theme this year.
In Corduroy's Best Halloween Ever!, Corduroy is joined by his friends Rabbit, Puppy and Mouse. We follow the quartet as they pick pumpkins and rake leaves for Corduroy's Halloween party. The friends all have their costumes planned-all except Corduroy. So, we also get to go shopping with him to find a costume. But when Puppy's costume falls apart on the way to the party, our generous teddy gives his friend the costume he had made for himself. The friends bob for apples, carve jack-o'-lanterns and dance the Monster Mash at Corduroy's party. Soon it's time to go trick-or-treating. But Corduroy still doesn't have a costume to wear. See how a punch and chocolate-stained tablecloth becomes the perfect costume for a little bear in green overalls and makes this his best Halloween ever.
     I recommend
Corduroy's Best Halloween Ever! for ages 4-7. It's a cute story to read to the younger children this month. Plus, it's short and easy enough for the beginning to mid-level early readers to read aloud.
A bear's share of the royalties from the sale of this book goes to the Don and Lydia Freeman Research Fund to support psychological care and research concerning children with life-threatening illness.
